pf, pf is a choreographic performance involving a trio of dancers (Damien Briançon, Laura Kirshenbaum, and Marie Orts), an original quadriphonic sound score by Charlotte Imbault, a lighting design by Christophe Cardoen, and a backdrop representing a wall.

Formal relationships between performers, space, and sound are sometimes direct, sometimes ambiguous. There are high contrasts: long stillnesses / vigorous dancing; introspection / projection through space; mute dance / noisy body; invisible singing dancers.

pf, pf embraces the legendary feeling of “not understanding a thing” in contemporary dance, in order to transform each spectator’s sensitive perceptions into a treasure (Gold). Light, body, shadow, sound, language, silence and movement are all poetic elements that this dance employs to make sense of the world while building it.

During the parade of forms that is this dance today, we forge ahead patiently trying not to force a specific result. The performers slipbetween different realities and qualities of being. This produces something that holds the attention. One could describe this slipping as an antidote to the tyranny of the absolute. Thanks to this slipperiness, we are dimensional and not statues. Things breathe and morph. Silences and listening make way for the unknown.

We remain faithful to the precept that dance does not “say” anything specific in and of itself, but can powerfully inspire momentum. This new project is constructing its delicate self in a time of hideous abuses of power that cause anguish, violence, hatred and fear, but also provoke crucial waves of inspiring human resistance.

As a performance-maker I believe that rising to the challenge of being true to my artistic questions, while living in this present, is essential to cultivating a more humane way of being together, where listening, observing, and imagining are precious intangible resources.
